Readings for Today

Life is fleeting, yet our Creator remains eternal. The readings for today remind us of who we are in God’s grand design—formed from dust, blessed with wisdom, and called to trust in Him like little children.

Fashioned in His Image, Called to His Light

Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) 17:1-13 gives a profound reflection on human nature. God has not only created us but has also set eternity in our hearts. He has given us dominion over creation, knowledge to discern good and evil, and a conscience illuminated by His light. Yet, we are constantly under His loving gaze—nothing is hidden from Him.

This passage is a humbling reminder: we are dust, yet we are more than dust. We are image-bearers of the Divine. We are called to live in the knowledge of God’s greatness, honoring Him by following His ways. However, too often, we rely on our own understanding rather than the wisdom He freely offers.

The Compassion of a Loving Father

Psalm 103 continues this theme by reminding us of God’s mercy. He knows how fragile we are—like grass that flourishes and fades. Yet, His love is steadfast. His justice is not just for us but extends to generations, to those who keep His covenant.

In our fast-paced, success-driven world, it’s easy to forget our dependence on God. We chase after significance, but the psalm reminds us that our true value comes from His enduring love. In His eyes, we are cherished—not because of what we accomplish, but because we are His children.

Becoming Like Little Children

Jesus’ words in Mark 10:13-16 carry one of the most radical truths of the Gospel: we must receive the kingdom of God like a child.

Children are trusting, humble, and open-hearted. They do not approach Jesus with skepticism or pride but with faith. The disciples, however, tried to prevent the children from coming to Him, possibly seeing them as unimportant. But Jesus welcomed them with open arms, showing us that God’s kingdom is not earned through status, knowledge, or self-sufficiency—it is received with simple trust.

How often do we complicate our relationship with God? We try to impress Him with our achievements, struggle to control everything, or hesitate to trust Him fully. Yet Jesus calls us to surrender our hearts like children—leaning on Him completely, knowing we are loved beyond measure.

Living the Reflection

Today’s readings challenge us to:

  1. Embrace our identity in Christ – We are made in His image, created for His glory. Let’s walk in wisdom and obedience to His word.
  2. Rest in God’s compassion – Our lives may be fleeting, but God’s love is eternal. He sees us, knows us, and cares for us as a Father.
  3. Trust like a child – Instead of overcomplicating our faith, let’s return to childlike trust. Let’s run to Jesus, knowing that He welcomes us with open arms.

May we live today with humble hearts, grateful for God’s wisdom, compassion, and the invitation to simply be His children.
